How do I make an appointment?
Telephone 277 1511 and speak with our receptionist, or e-mail us.
Can I speak to a physiotherapist before I make an appointment?
Yes. Call us on 277 1511 and ask our receptionist to arrange for a physiotherapist to call you at a time that is convenient for both of you.
What if I need to change my appointment?
We would greatly appreciate prior cancellation of any appointments you are unable to attend. We are happy to arrange another appointment for you.
Is there a waiting list?
No. An appointment will usually be available within 24-48 hours, although more often than not, you will be able to be seen on the day if you wish.
What are your opening times?
We are open Mondays and Wednesday from 7am-7pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am-5pm, Fridays from 7am-5pm and Saturday morning 9am-12 noon.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is usually not necessary, although if you have one please bring it with you so that your physiotherapist can communicate with the referring practitioner if necessary.
A referral is sometimes required in order to claim for physiotherapy costs on your health insurance. Please check with your insurer.
I have had an accident resulting in an injury. What do I do?
You can complete your ACC claim forms with us, and we will forward these onto ACC for you. ACC will decide whether your claim is accepted or declined. However, if you are claiming for a work-related ‘overuse’ injury, you must visit your doctor to fill out an ACC claim form.
How long are appointments?
Your initial appointment will usually take 40 minutes, and your subsequent appointments 20 minutes.
What should I wear?
Ideally wear loose, comfortable clothing. For neck and upper back problems your physiotherapist may ask you to remove your top. For lower back and hip complaints, you may be asked to remove your trousers. Gowns and shorts are available if required.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
If you have been given a referral, have X-rays or other test results please bring these with you.
Can I bring someone with me?
You are welcome to bring friends or family with you.
Treatment
What happens when I come for my first appointment?
When entering the clinic, please introduce yourself to the receptionist at Physiotherapy Reception and take a seat in our waiting room.
Your first appointment may last 40 minutes, and will involve an interview to take a medical history as well as a physical examination. From this assessment, you and your physiotherapist will set treatment goals to restore or develop your potential. Your physiotherapist will then discuss the proposed treatment, likely outcomes and probable time frames with you.
You are welcome to ask questions so that you can make informed choices about your treatment. You may decline any treatment/s you do not wish to consent to, and have the right to do so at any time.
What treatment can I expect?
Our physiotherapists use a variety of treatments depending on your needs. These may include:
• Injury management education
• Joint mobilisation or manipulation
• Exercises
• Acupuncture
• Massage
• Injury prevention education
• Lifestyle advice to help control your chronic health problems
• Liaison with, and referral on to specialist services when appropriate
If you don’t understand a procedure or exercise, please ask your physiotherapist to explain it further or demonstrate it.
If you have any side-effects from your treatment, please let your physiotherapist know immediately.
If you have any changes to your medical or general condition during your course of treatment, such as pregnancy, illness or prescribed drugs, make sure you tell your physiotherapist.
Payment
What are your charges?
If you are receiving treatment due to an accident that has been accepted by ACC, ACC pays for part of your treatment. You will be charged a $25 co-payment for the first visit, and a $20 co-payment for each follow-up treatment.
Private/non-ACC consultations cost $60 for the first visit and $55 for follow-up treatments.
Materials supplied are charged to both ACC and private/non-ACC clients.
What are your payment terms?
Payment is appreciated after each consultation, either by credit card, eftpos, cheque or cash.
Will my private health insurance cover my physiotherapy consultation fees?
Many health insurance policies do cover, or part-cover, physiotherapy fees. Please check with your insurance company.
